My Day

I got up at 6:30 to head out to the golf event that they had on in Charlesland golf course. I went to the golf course and started off by helping to set up the lunch hall and the team areas. I then was told what I would be doing for the day. They informed me that they wanted me to head out onto the course with one of the teams and keep a scorecard for each of the players in the pairing. I met the athletes with which I would be spending the day with. We then headed out onto the course and started our round

It took about 5 hours to get around the course but I enjoyed it thoroughly. The athletes and their caddies were very nice. I really admired the attitude that the athletes had. They never got too annoyed about any bad holes and once they hit a good shot, all their bad ones were instantly forgotten. It is a great way to play the game and they really had a lot of fun. The highlight of the day for me was when one of the athletes, who had previously had a few bad holes, hit a brilliant golf shot with everyone watching on the 18th hole. Despite not winning, he was delighted with himself because of his brilliant shot in front of all the competitors parents and coaches.

Once the score cards were checked and signed, I handed them in to the club house and went in to help out with the prize giving. After every athlete had received a meddle, I helped put away all of the special olympics gear and packed up the van. It was a long and we didn't finish till around 7. However it was a great day and I really enjoyed it.
